Meet Zach

Zach Miller is a professional voice teacher and actor currently living in Montclair, New Jersey. He holds a B.F.A. in musical theatre from Penn State University. There, he also studied voice pedagogy with a focus in Bel Canto/Can Belto, a cross-training technique for singing in musical theatre.

Zach appeared in the national tour of Anything Goes and completed a long run as the vocal captain and lead vocalist with Celebrity Cruises. He has worked at regional theatres including The Pittsburgh CLO, Music Theatre of Wichita, West Virginia Public Theatre and The Connecticut Repertory Theatre. He is a member of the performing groups “Carole’s Kings” and “NYC3,” where he tours the country, on land and sea, singing and playing piano for a wide variety of pop/rock music, with a twist. Zach is also co-founder of the Penn State a cappella group, “The Statesmen,” who have been featured on both BOCA (Best of College A Capella) and Voices Only. They have won multiple national recording awards and have had major success at the ICCA’s (International Collegiate Competition of A Cappella). Zach is a proud member of AEA, NATS, and The Voice Foundation.

In addition to his private studio, Zach is currently on the voice faculty at Molloy University/CAP21 and MT College Auditions, a team of actively-working theatre professionals who are also passionate and experienced guides for all aspects of college and graduate school theatre audition processes. His students have been accepted to high school performing arts programs and B.F.A. programs in addition to working in regional, national touring, and Broadway productions. He looks to encourage his students to develop their own fully energized, balanced, and supported sound.

Teaching Philosophy

In my studio, I love to make geeky vocal technique talk fun and easy to digest. My goal is to inspire my students to reach beyond having a basic understanding of physiological vocabulary and, instead, discover how this terminology is applied to their unique voice and can help them conquer vocal faults. We will explore topics like body alignment, tension, breath pressure/flow, registration, articulation and resonance to expand your versatility and stamina as a singer. I aim to help my students develop a strong foundation in these components to create a self-sufficient singer.

As a performer myself, I know how challenging it can be to get out of your head and trust your instincts. I train artists to become confident and grounded in their technique, allowing them the freedom to focus on storytelling in their material. I find it crucial to combine acting intentions and movement in technical exercises. I encourage honest moment to moment song performance and I believe the ability to use one’s voice is a powerful tool to serve tactics and objectives as an actor.
